Orders to Hampton Roads? You may be buying a house from across the country, or across an ocean, with a report date and a closing date that don’t move. I’ve served, and I know how a PCS move stacks up. I’m Brad Meyer, a veteran and former Coast Guard special operations member, and I inspect every home myself.

Built for buyers on orders

  • One point of contact. I answer my own phone. You won’t be passed around an office or wait on a callback from someone who never saw the house.
  • The owner inspects your home. The person you talk to is the person in the attic and the crawlspace.
  • No rushing. I take the time the house needs. When you can’t see the home yourself, that matters even more.
  • Scheduling that fits your timeline. No extra fees for evenings, weekends or older homes.
  • Military discount. Call for details.
  • Drone roof inspections and thermal imaging included, used when needed. When you can’t see the house yourself, these tools help me show you what I found.
  • Local knowledge. I know Hampton Roads housing: crawlspaces, high water tables, coastal exposure and older homes near the bases.

Buying from out of town

Plenty of military buyers can’t be here for the inspection. That’s fine. Here’s how it works:

  1. Call or book online. Tell me about the property and your timeline. I coordinate access with your agent.
  2. I inspect the home. Same thorough inspection, whether you are standing next to me or not.
  3. You get the report.
  4. We talk it through. Out-of-town buyers can join a live video walkthrough of the home with me, so you see what I see. I’ll go over the findings with you so you understand what matters and what doesn’t, no matter what time zone you are in.

Your spouse, agent or a family member is welcome to attend in person if that helps.

VA loans and inspections

If you are using a VA loan, you will hear about the VA appraisal. A VA appraisal is not a home inspection. The appraisal is for the lender: it establishes value and checks that the home meets the VA’s minimum property requirements. A home inspection is for you: a much more detailed look at the condition of the house and its systems. Most buyers using VA financing get both.

Near the bases

I inspect homes across Hampton Roads, including near:

  • Naval Station Norfolk
  • NAS Oceana
  • Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story
  • Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth
  • Coast Guard Base Portsmouth

See my city pages for Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Suffolk.

Selling before you PCS out?

A pre-listing inspection helps you find and handle issues before you list, so the sale goes smoother while you are getting ready to move.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be there for the inspection?
No. Many military buyers are still at their current duty station. I coordinate access with your agent, inspect the home, and can walk you through it on a live video call.

Is a VA appraisal the same as a home inspection?
No. The appraisal is for the lender and focuses on value and minimum property requirements. A home inspection is a detailed look at the home’s condition, done for you.

Do you offer a military discount?
Yes. I offer a military discount. Call (757) 354-3528 for details.

Can my agent or spouse attend in my place?
Yes. Anyone you choose is welcome to attend, and I’ll still go over the findings with you directly.
